Reflect on the Differences of Education Between China and Britain
Education in China and Britain are both world-renowned. However, education in both countries are still different in many ways, such like systems, teaching style and cultures. In the 21st century, education is more about teaching students what skills they need to achieve succeed and help them((Think Strategic for Schools, 2019).I believe China and Britain are both on the way to this goal. This is essay will discuss about the difference education between China and Britain.
First, let us start from Britain. In Britain, the education systems are primary education, secondary education, further education and higher education. Children are legally compelled to go to primary and Secondary Education from age 5 to the age of 16. After that, people have right to decide whether they want to continue or stop. Moreover, in school, the relationship between teachers and students are more relaxed. The class management is not as formal as in China. Teachers are more of a facilitator to students. For students, teachers are not just a person who only delivers knowledge. They are guiding students to find the answer by themselves and always encourage students to express their own thoughts no matter right or wrong. They value student’s ability more. They think a good students should have knowledge and the ability to face all different situation and challenges. According to the Britain culture, this whole ideas of education and system are reasonable.(International Student, 2019).
However, In China, children must attend nine years compulsory Education which are primary education and secondary education. Then they can decide whether they want to go to the high school and university or even more. (Internations.org,2019). Through the ages, one of the culture in Chinese schools is students must to obey teachers. Or we can say is actually a rule. The relationship between teachers and students are very serious. In the class, students must be quiet when they are not answering the questions. One of the methods of class management is to punish the student by make them embarrassed so they could be quiet (Youtube.com, 2016). In addition, teachers usually deliver knowledge directly. Students will not have chance to think. Eventually, they are rely on receiving the knowledge from the teacher instead of thinking by themselves. Therefore, students are lack of independent thinking and practical ability( MIAO Yi-yi,2016).
In my own case, I think it is very important for individuals that they can study independently. For example, students need to be able to write a essay or assessment independently at school and a lot of self-study. Moreover, in my study course, we have lots of individual study such like reading and listening practice, reports. Those need a lot research. Meanwhile, that will help us learn more methods of study, which can also improve us to have our own thoughts and be more creative. Furthermore, I still need listen to people who are different from me and respect different opinion to keep develop myself in the future (Blank, 2018).
In conclusion, this essay discuss the difference between China education and British education. Though they both have advantages and disadvantages. China is more focused on learning from books and following the routine. Students may lack of independent thinking and creativity. However it will help some students to be a better worker in the traditional organisation. In contrast, Britain is less focused on following the routine, instead of encourage students to be more creative and have their own thoughts. That will develop students to have the ability with independent study. However, some people become too creative and have their own ideas that are hard to achieve, which makes people miserable. Overall, different factors lead to different methods of education. However, I think both countries have good systems of education.
